Jane Garvin was born circa 1800 in Evish, Londonderry, Ireland.3 She was the daughter of Hugh Garvin and Jane (Jean) Orr. Jane Garvin married William Sherard.2 Jane Garvin died within days of being buried on 28 January 1861 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. She is buried in William Garvin lot of Cave Hill Cemetery.4,5,2
A bit of a mystery here about Jane Garvin and William Sherard. Jane also called Janet, migrated from Ireland to America in 1825/6 with her siblings, settling in the Munfordville, Kentucky area. Records then show that Janet/Jane G. Garvin married William Sherrard who was from Canada. How, why, when did Jane/Janet go to Canada? When did they come back from Canada to Kentucky, and how soon after that did William die? Since Jane is buried in Louisville, I'm wondering if William was buried there too.
In the obituary of Jane and William's son William it says: "He (William, Jr.) was born in Canada, but in early infancy came with his parents to the state of Kentucky where he was reared to manhood. The only son of a widowed mother, and brother of two orphan sisters, the duties and responsibilities of a man were devolved on him in early boyhood, and most faithfully and with discretion did he perform and bear them -- almost entirely supporting his mother and sisters by his unaided exertions. While his industry and business capacity supplied to the widow and orphans the place of husband and father, his affectionate heart and tender devotion to them made them forget their desolate condition."6

2nd great-granduncle of Kerry Suzanne Davis.
William C. Sherard was born circa 1820 in Canada.1 He was the son of William Sherard and Jane Garvin. William C. Sherard died circa 1862 in Raymond, Mississippi. His obituary states he "Died at his residence in Raymond, of bronchial affection, on Saturday, 17th inst., aged 42 years and 5 days."
According to his obituary, it appears that William C. Sherard was "born in Canada, but in early infancy came with his parents to the state of Kentucky where he was reared to manhood. The only son of a widowed mother, and brother of two orphan sisters, the duties and responsibilities of a man were devolved on him in early boyhood, and most faithfully and with discretion did he perform and bear them -- almost entirely supporting his mother and sisters by his unaided exertions. While his industry and business capacity supplied to the widow and orphans the place of husband and father, his affectionate heart and tender devotion to them made them forget their desolate condition. At an early period of his manhood he emigrated to the state of Mississippi and commenced business in the city of Vicksburg, as a clerk in the store of his maternal uncle, Mr. Samuel Garvin. Soon realizing sufficient means, he engaged in business in that city on his own capital, where he remained until the late war, when he removed to this place, where he resumed his former vocation and was engaged in it up to the beginning of his last sickness. Mr. Sherard leaves a widow and four bright boys to mourn his loss."2
