Adeliza de Louvain

b. circa 1104, d. 1151
Adeliza de Louvain was born circa 1104 in The Netherlands. She married Henry I King of England, son of William I King of England and Matilda of Flanders Queen of England, on 29 September 1121 in Windsor Castle, England. Adeliza de Louvain died in 1151. She was buried at Afflighem, Brabant, on 23 April 1151.

The Castle and Honour of Arundel had been settled on her as her dowry by King Henry I of England, her first husband. He had married her after the disaster of "The White Ship" in 1103 when his only legitimate son William was drowned, leaving him with his only legitimate daughter, the Empress Matilda. Sadly, during the fourteen years till the king's death in 1135, no children were born.

Adeliza remained a widow for about three years after King Henry died, and then in 1138 she married William d'Aubigny, or de Albini, who then first became known as Earl of Lincoln, then Earl of Chichester, and only much later as Earl of Arundel. Several children were born from this marriage.

The Queen Dowager retired in 1150 to a nunnery at Afflighem, in South Brabant, where she died and was buried on 23 April 1151, aged about forty-eight.1

Hugh Garvin was born in 1767 in Evish, County Derry, Ireland.1,2 He married Jane (Jean) Orr, daughter of James Orr and Jean Anderson, circa 1790. They lived in Evish, Londonderry, Ireland and Hugh was a farmer.3,4 Hugh Garvin died on 7 October 1834 (or maybe 1837) in Londonderry County, Ireland, at age 67 years. He was reinterred 2 February 1860 in the Garvin Family Lot, 7-10B, Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, Kentuckey.5,2

Hugh and Jane were the parents of nine children, all born and raised in County Derry, Ireland. The family was strongly Presbyterian. They appear to have stayed in Ireland while first their son William immigrated to America in 1816 and then seven more of their children, lead by Samuel, migrated to America in about 1825/26, settling in the Munfordville area. Their daughters Catherine and Margaret Garvin married and remained in Ireland.

In the winter of 1860, the American Garvin family, lead by son William, had the remains of Hugh and Jane Orr Garvin shipped from Londonderry to Louisville, and, with the remains of James Garvin which were shipped from Philadelphia where he had died, the three were reinterred in the William Garvin lot in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky, on February 2, 1860.6,7
