Captain John Browne was born circa 1610 in London, England. He died between 1680 and 1701.

Capt. John Browne with his brother Peregrine Browne ran two of the best equipped transports between London and Annapolis.

"In 1673, John Browne, mariner, of London, bought two tracts "Hope" and "Increase" near Round Bay. These tracts, showing the history of their purchase, are to be seen in our Record Office, in the name of Richard Warfield and at his request were so recorded among the restored records after the burning of the State House. As no transfers attended the record, the inference is clear they came into Warfield's possession through his wife, Elinor Browne, the heiress of Captain John Browne of London."1

Perhaps the child whose baptism caused such strife in Plymouth; he did not marry. There is no assurance that the child born shortly after the family's arrival in Plymouth was named John, but there does not appear to be any other child who would have been born at this date.
