Richard Carter is the son of Valentine Carter and Rebecca Carter. Richard Carter married Sarah Carter.1
Richard is mentioned as an heir in his father Valentine's Will dated 12 September 1726 (proved October 13, 1726). [See the Will for further information.] Richard Carter left a will on 29 July 1782 at Kent Island, Queen Anne's County, Maryland.
Richard's Will was proved April 17, 1784. It was witnessed by Sarah Tanner, Jacob Barnes and Thos. Barnes Jr. who died before the will was proved.
In the Name of God, Amen, I, Richard Carter of Kent Island, Queen Anne' County being infirm in Body but of sound & disposing mind & memory do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, viz --
First -- I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me hoping for Remission of all my sins, and my body to be decently interred at the Discretion of my Executrix and Executor hereafter named, and as to my worldly Goods which it has please God to bestow on me I give devise as follows viz --
I lend to my beloved wife Sarah Carater my whole Estate both real and personal during the Time she lives my widow and after she marries or dies then my whole Estate to be disposed of in the following manner viz --
I give devise to my two sons Richard Carter & Arthur Carter all of my part of a Tract of Land called Duns Hazard connected to be equally divided between them to them and their heirs forever, the Place where Arthur lives to be for Richard & the Place I now live on to be for Arthur --
I give and devise to my son Thomas Carter fifty acres of Land on Kt Island lying to the Westward part of a Tract of Land that my Father Valentine Carter bought of Francis Barnes to be & remain to him & his heirs forever, but if my son Thomas dies without Issue lawfully begotten of his Body, then & in such case I give devise to my grand daughter Susanna Carter Daughter of Arthur, the above mentioned fifty Acres of Land his heirs and assigns forever.
I give & devise to my son Thomas Carter three negroes to wit -- one negro woman named Patt or Martha, one named Elizabeth or Bess with all their Increase, and one negro Boy named John or Jack --
I give & devise to my grand son Richard Bran one negro girl named Letitia or Tish with all her Increase --
I give devise to my Daughter Ann Brand one shilling Ster.
I give & devise to my Daughter Susanna Sudler one shilling sterling --

My will and desire is that my negro woman named Nana after my decease & my wife's be set at full Liberty --
After my just debts and funeral charges is paid and after my wife dies or marries then the REmainder oif my Estate that I have not legacied I give & devise to my two sons John & Thonas to be equally divided between them.
Lastly -- I constitute and appoint my beloved wife Sarah Carter and my son Arthur Carter Executrix & Executor of this last Will & Testament revoking and making void all former Will or Wills by me made & holding this & none other to be my last Will & Testament. Valentine Carter is the son of Henry Carter. Valentine Carter married Rebecca Carter.1
The first mention we find of Valentine Carter is August 26, 1688, when he witnessed the will of Charles Stewart of Kent Island. From that time on we find him frequently mentioned as executor or witness to wills in Kent Island, Talbot Co., Kent Co. and Queen Anne's Co. April 2nd 1706 he was appointed a commissioner to settle the boundaries of Queen Anne's County. He is mentioned as late sheriff of Queen Anne's County in 1725.2 Valentine Carter left a will on 12 September 1726 at Queen Anne's County, Maryland.
His will was proved October 13, 1726. It is witnessed by John Carter, James Sudlar and Joseph Sudlar.

Imprs. -- I give unto my son Richard Carter that plantation, as he now lives on with all my lands that lye on ye west side of ye main road Beginning on ye land called Bodys belonging to ye Heirs of ye Korbys and to with ye said maine road to ye old field at ye Corner of my pastor where I now live and from there with a straight line to ye head of Eslaine Creek wch is now called Leggs Creek as also fifty acres of that Land I bought of Frances Brnes to be laid out next ye land of ye Connors and Blangeys Lands to him and his heires of his Body Lawfully begotten forever.
Imprs. -- I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Carter my now dwelling plantation, that is to say all my Land on ye Est side of ye maine road and wth ye Line of ye Lands given to my son Richard Carter to ye head of we Eslaine Creek, as also fifty acres of Land part of the hundred acres I bought of Francis Barnes that is to say ye East part of ___ Land to her and ye heires of her Body lawfully begotten forever, ye same to enjoy after my loving wife Rebecca Carter's decease. Maryland. ss. In the name of God Amen the 17th day of June 1706. I, Henry Carter, of Talbot County on Kent Island planttn being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and meaning thanks be given to God therefore, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing yt is appointed once for all men to die do make and ordain it my last will and Testament yt is to say, and first of all I give and commend to ye earth to be buried in a decent and Christian manner at the descretion of my Executor hereafter named nothing doubting but at ye genl Ressurect I shall receive the same again by the mighty powr of God and as touchinh such worldly estate wheewth it hath pleased God to bless me in ye lift I give beqth devise and despose of the same in the followg form and manner. Imps I give and beqth to Valentn Carter my eld's son all and singur my lands and Tenemts yt is to say my now dwelling Plantn and whole tract of land ye to be longing and all and singur what other lands be longs to me not heretofore nor here by disposed of to him and to his heir and afsigns forever. Likewise I do hereby give and beqth to him one negro man slave namd Robin, my cart horse calld Rock wth ye cart and Harnis and one of ye best beds that is to say beadsted feather bed bolster pillows and cases wth blankets sheets and coverlets and all the furnitr ye to belonging and my plough and all the gir ye to be longing.
