Fielding Utterback was born on 23 November 1809 in Woodford County, Kentucky.1 He was the son of Benjamin Utterback and Matilda "Matie" Hanks.2 Fielding married Sarah Terhune on 27 October 1833.1 Fielding Utterback died on 31 July 1881 in Mills County, Iowa, at age 71.1
Fielding was named for a close friend of his father, Etherington Fielding of Woodford County, Kentucky.1
After their marriage, Benjamin and Matie moved their family from Woodford County Kentucky to Union Township, Johnson County, Indiana, where Benjamin entered land on September 8, 1828. The family later moved to Iowa about 1840, eight years before Benjamin died.3
Before Fielding's death in 1881 in Iowa, he and Sarah lived for many years in Boone County, Indiana.1
