William Hilton was born in 1405. He was the son of Robert Hilton and Isabel. William Hilton married Mary Stapylton, daughter of William Stapylton and Margaret Vipont, before 1451. William Hilton died on 13 October 1457 at age 52 years.
In 1444, Edmund Duke of Somerset in the name of Edmund March, Dorset, Rowland Tempest, and William Herd about a charter at Carneby 22 April, 23 Henry VI (1444) gives Robert Hilton, Knight in the name of Robert Hilton, Knight, Baron of Hilton and Elizabeth his wife, former wife of Thomas Holden, holding the manor of Carneby, having the inheritance and assignations of Robert. William Hilton is the son and heir, aged 30.. (This note raises the question of birthdate for William as it seems to say that in 1444 he was 30 years old, which would therefore give him a birthdate of 1414 rather than 1405).1
