1st cousin 3 times removed of Abraham Lincoln.
1st cousin 8 times removed of Kerry Suzanne Davis.
Dawson Hanks was born circa 1717.2 He was the son of Luke Hanks I and Elizabeth.2

Baber says that "The name of Dawson Hanks appears several time and in association with the same names that are in the records in connection with Luke Hanks I. Dawson attended the sale of assets of the estate of Luke I and received a 'Bbl. of Corn as his due,' " and it was assumed he was a son of Luke I. If he was in business in the 1740s, it was then also assumed he was born prior to 1720, so a date of 1717 was picked by researchers.3

According to Baber, "The Anderson County, Kentucky, Hanks family has a tradition of a George Hanks who was killed at the Battle of Yorktown. The Luke Hanks family of South Carolina clearly place George as a brother of their ancestor Luke Hanks II. A George Hanks witnessed a will in 1767, his age unknown. If George was the father of a younger George Hanks of Middlesex County, who married in 1774, estimation gives him a birth date of the 1730s."1

Abraham Hanks was the son of Luke Hanks I and Elizabeth. Abraham Hanks died between 1784 and 1790 in Prince William County, Virginia.1

The evidence for Abraham, whether he's the son of Luke I or Luke II, who he was married to, Sarah Harper or a daughter of Robert Million, which were his children and which were the children of his son Abraham, where did he die? Campbell County or Prince William County, Virginia, what dates? Data found is confusing and contradictory, he's a problematic fellow. I believe this Abraham, or his son, probably did die in Prince William County, but otherwise it's difficult to separate the facts and sort out the date, so I therefor choose not to enter much about him -- and what I have here is all questionable. I gather there were two or three Abraham Hanks in Virginia at this time. He's not one of my relatives, so I'll let others try to pinpoint the details of his life. I've left a few pieces of information here, but am not sure really if they pertain to this Abraham or perhaps another.

As of 1773, Abraham was residing in Faquier County, Virginia where he was sued for debt.2

In March of 1775, an Abraham Hanks (this one or perhaps another??) accompanied William Calk on an exploratory journey into Kentucky. From the Calk Journal of the trip, Abraham was said to be a blacksmith and served as a farrier on the trip. It's apparent from Calk's journal that Abraham did not have a very good time between the weather, various mishaps like getting lost, and on 11th of April he and another member of the party, Philip Drake, turned back. They met up with another party crossing the mountains and did finally arrive in Boonesborough shortly after Calk arrived on April 20th. Abraham returned to Virginia in the autumn of 1775 and supposedly never returned to Kentucky. [Please see the attached PDF for a rather amusing article about this trip]3,4

On his return home, he witnessed an apprenticeship paper, Brown to Calk, in Prince William County. Family tradition says that he was in the Revolutionary War. He also is seen to have tithed in Prince William County in the years 1782 and 1783.5
