Andrew Bean was born in 1816 in Greenville, Mercer, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of William Bean and Sarah Bean. Andrew Bean married Margaret E. White, daughter of David White and Margaret Sharp, before 1844.

For over 30 years, Andrew and Margaret appear to have been farmers in Greenfield, Mercer County, as shown by censuses taken.2

From census information of 1850 the family is listed as living in Mercer County, Hempfield Township. Andrew Bean (34) Farmer. Margaret Bean (34), Sarah (6) (attended school in last year), David (4) (attended school in last year), Wm. (2), Margaret White (75) lived with them (Andrew's mother-in-law).3,4
